We Need The Cleansing Power Of The Word Of God Daily In Our Lives
Those of us who use bath tubs or basins to wash our bodies are probably many a time irritated to realise that every time we have a bath the water always becomes dirty. It reveals that our bodies have been dirty. We may have a bath in the morning, then spend the whole day not doing much sweat-producing work. But when we have a bath in the evening, the dirt of the day will be realised in the water. It is therefore important for everyone who wants to stay clean and healthy to always bathe, or else dirt will accumulate on our bodies.
Sin irritates our spirits, like dirt on our bodies. It so easily entangles or distracts us [Hebrews 12:1]. For our hearts – our thought pattern – to remain pure, we indeed need the purifying power of God’s Word in our lives. When we are pure in heart, we have the blessing of seeing God [John 15:3; Matt. 5:8]. God’s Word is like a mirror to our lives. As we read it we realise how far short we fall of the glory of God and of the standard set for us. We have the comfort though in knowing that God cleanses us when we confess our sins and are obedient to his Word. We must therefore be disciplined to read our Bible everyday and be obedient to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to remain pure. Then our service will be acceptable to the Lord.
